Illuminate Your Ride: Atala OLEDs for Motorcycle Safety and Style

Motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles are more than just a mode of transportation; they’re an expression of freedom, style, and adventure. As riders, we know that safety is paramount, especially when navigating through traffic or riding at night. Enter Atala organic light emitting diode (OLED) lighting—a cutting-edge technology that combines form, function, and safety in an elegant package.

Atala Follows Motorcycle Curves

Atala OLED panels are flexible, allowing them to conform to the curves of a two-wheeled vehicle. Unlike traditional lighting solutions, these panels can wrap around the rear of the bike seamlessly.

The result? Greater likelihood of being seen by car drivers and other road users. Whether it’s the sleek lines of a sportbike or the classic contours of a cruiser, Atala OLED lighting follows every curve, making your bike stand out on the road.

Atala Offers Wider Viewing Angles

Atala OLEDs are Lambertian emitters, which provide a perfectly homogeneous light that emits evenly across their surface. They are virtually free of glare and provide an immediate sense of elegance and beauty to any vehicle—whether two-, three-, or four-wheeled.

Helping other road users more easily assess motorcycle width matters, especially when you’re filtering through traffic or maneuvering in tight spaces. Atala OLED lighting provides expanded viewing angles to more accurately represent your bike’s width, ensuring that other drivers can spot you from various viewpoints. Road users can also better gauge your bike’s proximity and react accordingly, giving you the necessary clearance.

Wider viewing angles are crucial for motorcycle safety, since, as riders, we need to be seen from all directions.

Atala Communication Capabilities

Imagine your motorcycle’s rear lighting as both a safety feature and a means of communication.

Atala OLED panels have highly uniform segments/pixels with sharp, high contrast edges and nearly invisible gaps. These segments are individually addressable via software control to display different patterns, symbols, and messages to share information with other road users.

For example:

  • Proximity indication: Catch the eye of rear-approaching road users with high brightness segments that can light up all at once. This feature is currently on the road in the digital rear OLEDs of the Audi Q8 and Q6 e-tron.

  • Speed changes: Instantly convey when you’re slowing down or stopping with unique segmentation or symbols that quickly alert other road users to your changes in speed.

  • Custom messages: Individual Atala segments can be designed to create crisply defined logos and shapes to convey different messages and personalize your ride.

  • Road hazards: Atala not only allows for design freedom with unique lighting signatures, but also enhances safety through automated hazard notifications and other communication symbols.

Atala’s dynamic adaptability allows for creative customization, while also helping to keep you safer on the road.
